Guest LecturesAcross my courses, I have purposefully sought out and secured guest lecturers who can offer personal narratives, resources, or teaching experiences that I cannot offer to my students. In principle, this creates a “third space” between the teacher education classroom and the community, or more specifically, a fluid dialogue between our preservice teachers and community members. The following course and speaker examples illustrate this ongoing effort: EDN 300: Mr. Rafe Esquith, teacher and author [via email and blogging]; EDN 334: Mr. Alfred Schnog, Ms. Ruth Howard Chambers, Mrs. Jenn Hatch-Wright, Mr. Travis Matthews, Mrs. Melissa Hight, Ms. Bonnie Montelelone; EDN 348: Paws for Learning, Canines of Wilmington; LIC 501: Mr. Chris Meek, Mr. Sandy Younce, Ms. Elizabeth Redenbaugh [Current Trends in Education Panel]; Ms. Beth Peddle, Ms. Gina Signorile, Ms. Lora Crowley, Ms. Kaci Miller [Beginning Teachers Panel]; EDN413: Mr. Jonathan Wade (NCCAT).
